GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Adjunct Faculty Associates (Adjunct FAs) in the Preservice Professional Studies' teacher education programs at Simon Fraser University work closely with a small group of student teachers in the supervision of their EDUC 405 certifying practicum. Adjunct FAs also maintain effective relationships between SFU's Faculty of Education and public schools. Adjunct FAs are generally non-seconded teachers, but they may also be retired teachers or other experienced educators.
Please note that Adjunct FAs may be required to drive considerable distances as the program uses placements throughout the lower mainland.
SUPERVISION OF STUDENT TEACHERS
Supervising student teachers during the EDUC 405 certifying practicum is the shared responsibility of Adjunct Faculty Associates (Adjunct FA) and School Associates (SA). Adjunct FAs also help to clarify the responsibilities of the SA, who plays a pivotal role in the preparation of student teachers. Adjunct FAs are expected to visit schools regularly, deal with a range of challenging supervisory situations and develop open and collegial relationships with teachers and SAs.
Preservice Professional Studies is currently recruiting Adjunct Faculty Associates to supervise up to 4 student teachers during their EDUC 405 certifying practicum semester (September-December).
Preference will be given to applicants with recent FA experience. Strong applicants may have also successfully served as teachers, school administrators or school associates. Supervision of student teachers will occur throughout the Lower Mainland. Access to a vehicle is necessary (travel reimbursement provided). Adjunct FAs may also be required to attend Program Days on campus for training, in-service and workshops throughout the semester.
We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 term.
